Lemonade | Sort of | Book of Elsa

This recipe originated from the great Nigella Lawson, as always I've fiddled and here it is.
If you're lucky enough to have an almost grand-father in law with a garden full of mint, this is for you.

large bunch of mint
100g caster sugar
1 lemon
2 easy peelers <or any other citrus>
625ml ≅water

In a small saucepan, put 125ml of water with the sugar, mint and and zest from the fruit. I use a potato peeler to keep the zest in large pieces.
Place on high heat, once it's boiling turn then heat down to the lowest it can go and simmer for 5 minutes, take off the heat and let cool completely.
In the meantime, juice the fruit to give about 100ml then make up to 500ml with water.
Once the syrup is cool, strain both the diluted juice and syrup into a jug. Serve over ice.

It occurs to me that a glug or two of rum/vodka wouldn't be a bad thing....

Luxor - Egypt (Top 5 Tips)

Morning Guys! Welcome to Book of Elsa :)
Here are my top tips for travelling to Luxor, Egypt:

  1. Bring loads of light layers, so that you can mix and match and layer on cool nights. Also bring a large scarf/shawl to cover shoulders in temples/mosque.
  2. Bring a large sun hat!! Goes without saying but...
  3. Whilst on excursion take 10 Egyptian Pounds to make tipping easier, the bus driver/guide/servers... it all adds up. Take my word for it.
  4. Keep aftersun cream in the fridge for extra coolness following a day in the (very) hot sun.
  5. If the one thing you miss from home is tea, might want to bring your own tea bags... Just had water.
PS: don't forget to hydrate. I recommend small quantities regularly!!

Feliz Cinco de Mayo - Pina Colada

Welcome back!
Cinco de Mayo has been and gone, it is a favourite holiday of mine because it generally means I can indulge in Tequila. This year however, I felt like a change and went for the rum route. Coconut Rum to be exact (my love for all things coco is legendary).
Here is the recipe for my Pina Colada:

Edinburgh Travel

Hi!
Welcome back,
I've only just got back from my trip to Edinburgh and may I just tell you: The pictures will not do it justice. It is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited combining old and new parts of town seemingly. The Scots are so warm and friendly I cannot wait to show you guys... I'm making/editing as I type. The excitement was killing me so I'd thought I'd share a little now.
ENJOY XXO :)

Berry Blush

I thought up this recipe for Valentines' but honestly it's a good drink at any time:

1 shot Triple Sec
1 shot Vodka (don't bother with the good stuff here)
Juice of half a lime
2 shots cranberry juice (any red juice really)
Mix everything with ice in a small tumbler;
Enjoy
